Raw, kibble, natural, grain free: dog food labels are a maze. Here is a plain comparison from our West Bromwich shop.
Raw dog food
Uncooked meat, bone and offal, usually sold frozen. Complete raw meals take the guesswork out of balance. Great for owners who want a meat-led diet and are happy to store food in the freezer. Browse raw dog food or read our raw feeding guide.
Kibble
Convenient, easy to store and travel with, and usually cheaper per day for large dogs. Quality varies a lot, so look for a high meat content and a named protein. See dry dog food and our kibble guide.
What does natural dog food mean?
There is no legal definition, so check the label. We use it to mean short ingredient lists, named meats, and no artificial colours or flavours. Shop natural dog food.
Can I mix them?
Many owners do, using kibble for convenience and raw for variety. Introduce changes gradually over about 7 days.
How to choose
- Fussy or sensitive dog: try a single protein, grain free recipe.
- Budget and big dogs: a quality kibble sack.
- Active or working dogs: a high meat, high protein food.
