Puppy Kibble Guide: What to Feed and When

Puppies grow fast, so what goes in the bowl matters. Here is what we tell new puppy owners in our West Bromwich shop.

What makes a good puppy kibble?

  • A named meat first: chicken, salmon or turkey high on the ingredients list.
  • A puppy-specific recipe: puppies need different nutrition from adults, so avoid feeding an adult food.
  • Gentle ingredients: grain free recipes with sweet potato suit many young stomachs.

Puppy recipes we stock

Natural Delights has Puppy Salmon with Haddock and White Fish, Puppy Chicken with Turkey, Salmon, Sweet Potato and Carrot, and a Puppy Small Breed Turkey with Duck recipe. For working puppies, Natural Delights Working has puppy chicken and puppy salmon in 15kg sacks. See all of them in our puppy food collection.

How much should I feed?

Follow the feeding guide on the pack, based on your puppy's current weight and age, and split the daily amount into three or four meals while they are young. Use our feeding calculator as a starting point and adjust to keep a lean, healthy shape.

Switching your puppy's food

Keep feeding what the breeder used at first, then change over gradually across about 7 days. Sudden changes are the most common cause of upset tummies.

When do I move to adult food?

Small breeds typically move to adult food around 9 to 12 months, larger breeds later. Ask your vet or pop in and we will advise. Our kibble guide covers every range we stock.
