High Protein Dog Food: What It Means and Who Needs It

High protein dog food gets talked about a lot. Here is what it actually means and who benefits.

What counts as high protein?

There is no fixed definition. Look at the analytical constituents on the pack, and at where the protein comes from. Named meats high up the ingredients list are a better sign than vague plant protein.

Who might benefit?

  • Active, sporty and working dogs
  • Growing puppies on a puppy recipe
  • Dogs moving from a low-meat diet to a meat-led one

Older dogs, dogs with kidney or other health issues may need a different balance, so ask your vet first.
