Best Grain Free Dog Kibble UK: How to Choose the Right Bag

Walk into any pet shop and the kibble aisle is a wall of bags all promising the same thing. Here is how we help customers in our West Bromwich shop pick a grain free kibble that actually suits their dog.

What does grain free actually mean?

Grain free kibble replaces wheat, maize and rice with ingredients like sweet potato, potato and peas. It is not automatically better, but it suits many dogs with sensitive stomachs, itchy skin or a suspected grain intolerance, and it is a common choice for owners moving from a raw diet to something more convenient.

What to check on the label

  • Meat content: look for a named meat first on the ingredients list, and a high percentage. "Pork (40%)" tells you far more than "meat and animal derivatives".
  • Single protein recipes: useful if your dog reacts to certain meats, because you can rule proteins in or out one at a time.
  • Life stage: puppy, adult and small breed recipes are balanced differently. Feed the one that matches your dog.
  • Feeding guide: a good bag gives grams per day by weight, which you should adjust for activity.

Our grain free kibble ranges

Natural Delights is our main grain free range: a high meat content, hypoallergenic recipes with sweet potato in adult, small breed and puppy formulas. Proteins include chicken, salmon, duck, lamb, turkey, rabbit, pork, haddock and Angus beef, in 2kg, 6kg and 12kg bags.

Our own-brand Grain Free Adult Kibble is a great value option in lamb, duck, chicken and pork with potato, in 2kg and 12kg bags.

For kennels, gundogs and busy working dogs, Natural Delights Working comes in 15kg sacks in chicken, venison, Angus beef and salmon, plus puppy recipes. It is sold VAT exempt as working dog food.

Switching foods safely

Whatever you choose, change over gradually across about 7 days, mixing a little more of the new food in each day, and keep fresh water available. If your dog has a stomach upset that does not settle, speak to your vet.

Kibble or raw?

Plenty of our customers feed both, using kibble for convenience and raw for variety. Browse our grain free dog food, Natural Delights kibble and raw meats, or use the feeding calculator to work out how much to feed. Not sure? Pop in and we will point you at the right bag.
